Tree work in Davistown

A landmark pine and fig beside the wharf

Illoura Reserve, beside the wharf at the end of Davis Avenue, holds a Norfolk Island pine that Gosford City Council's Significant Tree Register counted among the well known landmarks of Davistown. Pruning it is council's job, so private work nearby leaves the pine alone, and a quote for a neighbouring tree allows for working beneath a tall protected canopy in wind off Brisbane Water.

Next to it, the register listed a council-owned Port Jackson fig. Figs of that kind carry long, heavy limbs over wide, shallow roots, and neither the canopy nor the roots of this one are a neighbour's to cut.

Davistown questions

The wetlands, and limbs from council land

Who looks after the trees in the wetlands?

Council does. Central Coast Council has resolved to create a 10-year works implementation plan for the council-owned Davistown Wetlands, with the Davistown Progress Association, to maintain and repair them. A job on a block next to the wetland keeps its cuttings, mulch and machinery out of it.

Can a branch from council land be cut where it hangs over?

Only once council has been asked. A limb reaching over the fence from the wetland or the foreshore reserve grows on a council tree, so the request goes to council before anyone climbs or cuts.
