Rainforest in Fletchers Glen, and a listed garden
Fletchers Glen, reached from Frazer Road, holds two rainforest species on Gosford City Council's old register of significant trees: ribbonwood and stinkwood. That makes the glen a moist rainforest pocket among the eucalypts. On the blocks beside it, fill, garden waste and runoff are kept out of the glen.
A garden on Araluen Drive is a local heritage item, and its State Heritage Inventory listing calls it a rare example of this type of garden landscape, with a distinctive early sandstone boundary wall and gate. Trees that form part of a heritage item fall outside the council's tree chapter, so pruning or removing one needs heritage approval, and the old wall and gate are protected while the work is done.

Killcare questions
Rare glen trees and a fire on the record
Can a ribbonwood in the glen be trimmed from next door?
No. The register listed the ribbonwood in Fletchers Glen as council-owned and as rare trees for the district, and warned that pollution from adjacent development may cause future problems. A limb from the glen hanging over a fence is reported to the council rather than cut.
Is there a fire record for Killcare?
There is. NPWS fire history records a wildfire named Killcare that started on 4 February 1985 and burnt about 2.4 hectares. It was small, but it is reason enough to weigh a tree near the house as fuel and not only on its health, and any 10/50 clearing waits on what the RFS online tool says for that lot.
