Tree removal on the Central Coast

Most trees on a suburban block come down in pieces, each one lowered past the roof and the fence, and here the council question gets answered before the saw comes out.

Tree removal

What sets the price of a removal

Two trees of the same size can be quoted a long way apart, and the reason is nearly always what surrounds them.

How it works

From the first message to a written quote

The council question is settled before any price, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to a quote in writing.

  1. 1

Tell us what the tree is doing

Where it stands, what it is close to and what you would like done about it.

A grey haired man in his back yard on the phone, looking up at a tall gum beside the house
  2. 2

A contractor comes to see it

A tree contractor who covers your suburb looks at the tree, the access and what is underneath it.

A steep driveway up to a hillside house with a large Sydney red gum and sandstone boulders beside it
  3. 3

    The council question is answered

Height, trunk size, distance from the house and the species decide whether a permit or an exemption applies.

A woman at a dining table working on a laptop, tall gum trees through the window behind her
  4. 4

    You get it in writing

Scope, timber, stump and date on one page, and nothing is booked until you have said yes.

A tree contractor in hi-vis work clothes walking up to a front gate, where the home owner holds a single sheet of paper, a big gum across the road

Removal questions

The stump, and the neighbours

Is the stump part of the removal?

Only if the quote says so. Grinding is priced on its own, because nobody knows what is under a stump until the tree is off it.

Can the timber go out for the kerbside pickup?

Some of it. The council's bulk kerbside garden collection takes stumps and logs up to 30cm in diameter, as long as nothing is too long or too heavy for two people, and the green lid bin refuses large branches, logs and stumps. That is why most removals include cartage.

Do the neighbours need to know?

It helps to tell them, especially if the tree is near the boundary or the sections have to be lowered over their side. Anything on their side of the fence needs their agreement first.
