Kendalls Glen, the cottage and its corner pine
Council's local environmental plan lists the Kendalls Glen reserve, rock and memorial among its heritage items, and the listing takes in the road reserve as well as the lot. Erina Shire Council resumed about one hectare of land enclosing the rock as a public reserve, to keep the rock and as much of its surroundings as it could. The glen's trees are council's, so they are not cut back to open a view or let in light, and a neighbour's overhanging limb or crossing root is taken up with council before any work.
At Henry Kendall Cottage, the State Heritage Inventory records an established garden with large trees in the grounds around the stone cottage, and a large pine tree to the front corner. Work on any of those trees goes through the council's heritage approval, and limbs and machinery are kept clear of the cottage walls and roof.

West Gosford questions
A failing sewer main, low floors and fire
Why does stump grinding near the racecourse need care?
Because a sewer main runs beside the creek there. Council says the West Gosford sewer rising main has greatly deteriorated due to poor soil conditions and has ruptured twice in five years, and the section being replaced runs from behind Gosford Racecourse along Narara Creek. Its new route was chosen to take out as few trees as possible, so the trees along that corridor are kept wherever they can be.
Is the industrial area harder to work in after rain?
It can be. Council's draft floodplain risk management plan for Narara Creek says floor levels in the West Gosford industrial area are close to street level and likely to flood. Ground like that stays wet after a storm, loosening root plates and softening access for trucks and elevated work platforms, so jobs there are booked for a dry spell.
Does the bush around West Gosford burn?
It can, and it has. The parks service's fire history layer records two wildfires named West Gosford, which started on the same December day and were out by the next. On blocks that back onto bush, dead trees and leaf litter are kept down, and the lot is looked up on the bush fire prone land map before vegetation is removed.
